This Week I Learned
Closed Clubface = Hook City.
Lately, my ball has been diving left like it owes money. So, I hit the range, set up a mirror, and—boom—caught the culprit: my clubface was CLOSING during the backswing.
Why has no one ever told me this?! Time to fix it. Pronto.

Rory’s Speed Training Secrets
Grant Horvat keeps delivering great golf content. First, Tiger was on his channel (we featured it a few weeks ago). Now, Rory McIlroy is teaching Grant how to unlock more yardage! This video is a goldmine if you’re chasing distance and speed.

Rory’s approach is simple, yet brilliant. It’s all about freeing your swing and trusting your body. There are some hidden gems here that might change how you think about driving the ball forever. Let’s break it down:
Hit It All Out - Rory’s first tip: forget mechanics for a second. Clear your mind of all the technical thoughts and aiming. Just let it rip. His secret? Swing with full commitment—no second-guessing.
Don’t Fear the Miss - If you are training for speed, balls are usually flying everywhere. Rory’s been there, too. But missing is part of the process. Don’t sweat it; embrace the chaos and keep pushing. Accuracy will come.
Warm Up (Seriously!) - Let’s be real—Rory’s built like a machine. For us mere mortals, though, this is your warning: don’t blow your back out trying to imitate him. Warm up properly before going full send on the range. Your lower back will thank you later.
I could write a whole novel on Rory’s insights, but honestly, you’re better off watching it yourself. Trust me, it’s worth every second.

Deals for the Feels
Warmer days are coming, but not fast enough—so let’s fix that by throwing some cash at new equipment.
Last year’s Titleist, Puma & Adidas hats are getting hefty markdowns. If your go-to cap is looking more sweat than fabric, now’s the time to refresh your look for half the price.
Callaway isn’t letting TaylorMade steal all the attention—Chrome Tour balls are now on the same buy 4, pay 3 deal. A clean 25% savings on premium balls.
Speaking of TaylorMade, their TP5 & TP5x are still rocking the same deal. If you missed out last week, now’s your second chance. But don’t wait—these will be gone fast.
Not as aggressive as Callaway & TaylorMade’s deals, but Pinehurst, Troon, and Jack Nicklaus special edition balls make up for it. And those golden Nicklaus balls? Pure chef’s kiss.

The Key to No More Three-Putts
Distance control can make or break your putting game. This video introduces the Stroke Meter to help you improve speed, nail lag putts, and avoid costly mistakes on the green. With the right technique and tempo, you’ll turn those long putts into tap-ins and start saving serious strokes.

60-40 Stroke Ratio - Forget the idea of a perfect pendulum stroke. While it looks even, the downswing transfers energy into the ball, so the putter naturally slows after impact. This means your stroke should be about 60% backswing and 40% follow-through. Mastering this ratio will improve your distance control and give your putting stroke a more consistent feel.
20 footers - Most golfers lose strokes from long-distance putting. The solution is to train from 20+ feet regularly. Build your confidence at this range to avoid dreaded three-putts and keep your scores in check.
Stock Distances - Understanding what it feels like to putt at 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40 feet is a game-changer. Practice these stock distances to develop a reliable internal gauge. This way, you can easily adjust your stroke based on how far you need to roll it.
72 bpm - Putting is all about rhythm and consistency. Use a metronome at 72 bpm to groove a repeatable stroke. The consistent beat helps sync your backswing and follow-through, sharpening your distance control and building touch.
P.S. If you want to buy the Stroke Meter you can buy it for $39 here. (again not affiliated)
Quick Bites for the Road
🎯 Sergio’s Grid Gauntlet – Sergio Garcia takes on The Grid with Luke Kerr-Dineen, aiming to hit 10 targets, each spaced 10 yards apart, in as few shots as possible. Think darts, but way harder—and with wedges. Can he finish under par on this challenge? Spoiler: It’s tougher than it looks.
🍻 LIV Golf’s Beer Shower Madness – Day 1 of LIV Golf Adelaide was pure chaos. Patrick Reed aced the infamous watering hole and got drenched in a full-on beer shower. Aussie fans brought the party energy, and the celebration was legendary. Worth a watch just for the crowd reaction.
🏌️♂️ Copy the Pros’ Pre-Shot Routines – Want more consistency in your game? Steal some moves from the pre-shot routines of Rory, JT, Jon Rahm, and more. Spoiler: They don’t just stand there and hope for the best. It’s all about rhythm and focus—you might just shave a stroke or two off your score.

Quiz answer
It’s not Norman Manley with his legendary (but slightly dubious) 59 aces. The real record belongs to Mancil Davis with 51 verified holes-in-one. Known as the “King of Aces,” Mancil had 20 aces before he turned 20!
Sincerely, your Magic Rabbit.
Leader through the rabbit hole. Perfecting his short game. Mostly the part where he walks short distances to find lost balls.
