This Week I Learned
Itās the Circle of Swing
Golf has a funny way of humbling us. Just when you think youāve finally nailed your swing, you realize thereās still so much more to learn. You start with the basics (like shallowing your path), and just as you feel like youāve got it, you discover that it was only the beginning. It turns out thereās always another layer to peel backālike me realizing I could still narrow my driverās path even more. The learning path is a circle.
Useless golf videos weāve watched this week, so you donāt have to:

Creating Compression
Want to hit longer, better shots? Itās all about compressionāgetting that downward pressure into the ball at contact. More compression means longer (and more accurate) shots, which means lower scores, and we all know what lower scores mean: happiness. Compression = Happiness. Simple math.
Watch the video to learn to be happy:

Open Clubface During Upswing: Lots of us (guilty šāāļø) rotate our wrists at the start of our backswing, which messes everything up and forces us into a chain of awkward micro-adjustments just to make decent contact.
The Fix: Imagine wearing a watch on your non-dominant arm (unless you are wearing a watch, then your imagination gets a rest). Keep the watch face pointing toward the ground for as long as possible during your backswing. If you hold that feeling through impact, youāll get better compression. Thereās also a drill with an alignment stick in the video thatās worth trying.
Upper Body Hanging Back: Dropping your head back shifts the arc of your swing backward, making you hit up on the ball instead of downābye-bye, compression.
The Fix: The video uses a Swingplate to give feedback when the head moves too much, but a cheaper version is to have a friend hold an alignment stick beside your head. Youāll know immediately if youāre doing it right, and that feeling will help you self-correct later. Just rememberāuse the rounded end of the stick next to your head; we donāt need any tragic alignment stick incidents out there!
Unloading Your Angles Too Early: You need to keep your arm angles loaded for as long as possible. Straightening your arms too soon forces you to make awkward hand adjustments and lose momentum before impact.
The Fix: Try the "Pump Drill." Start your downswing, but stop at the 3 oāclock position, then reset and repeat. Itās easier to understand when you see it in action, so jump to the Pump Drill in the video for a clear demo.
I love simple, universally applicable tips that can be remembered with body cuesāthatās why the watch face tip is my favorite. Combine these strategies with the Ben Hogan tips below, and you'll see your distance increase in no time.

The Black Friday Frenzy is over, and most of those juicy discounts are gone. Butā¦ and this is a big butt...
Okay, itās just $10 discount on two dozen ProV1s, so letās call it a medium-sized butt. Still, every bit helps, right?
This oneās pretty coolāyou get to open a new door each day to reveal sweet discounts. Todayās deal? -17% on balls. Niceee.
Are you kidding me?! A new limited-edition Scotty drops next week, and it might just be one of the most beautiful putters Iāve ever seen. Iād still 3-putt from inside 6 feet, but Iād do it in style. Check out the announcement video:
Ben Hoganās Swing Key
Honestly, I never really got what proper hip movement was supposed to look likeāuntil I watched this. Ben Hogan makes it look so effortless in this short clip. I finally understand how fluid the hips need to be and, more importantly, when they should start doing their magic (spoiler: way earlier than I thought!).
Definitely a must-watch if you want to level up your swing.
