Plus: Flatulence During Back Swing
What we'll cover this week

Evil Distractions - Mean, but justified by the reaction
Thick Grips - Is the hype real or just another fad

This Week I Learned
Youâre Not Supposed to Win Many Tournaments.
When one player constantly dominates your club tournaments, they might be sandbagging. Let me share this gem from an article on sandbaggers:
âAccording to Thurner, the USGA and others have done significant research on how often a player should make the winnerâs podium. Golfers playing in a normal number of events (eight over two years) should place first no more than once and may have one other high finish, like fourth place. Anything beyond that is not statistically reasonable.â
So thatâs why Iâm not winningâŚ

Gain Yards On Your Drives
Danny Maude is back with some easy guides to add serious length to your drives.
Disclaimer: These tips might sound a bit technical at first, but trust me, once you let the info soak in, itâs all straightforward. It boils down to a training aid and one simple swing thought thatâll become second nature in no time. The best part? You donât need to get stronger to see real yardage gains.

Optimize Your Grip - Sounds basic, but your grip matters A LOT. Hand/finger placement, pressure, and even leaving space at the bottom of your grip to create a lever all play a role. If that feels like too much info, donât worry - skip to the next tip!
Grip Trainer - Dannyâs easy fix for a perfect grip every time: use a grip trainer. It builds muscle memory and takes the guesswork out of grip placement. Even pros like Scottie Scheffler swear by it. It works with any grip style you use - interlock, baseball, death claw, you name it.
Let the Hinges Work - In the backswing, let your trail elbow hinge naturally while keeping your front arm as straight as possible (a slight bend is fine). After contact, your front elbow should hinge for a smooth finish. Itâs a bit tricky to explain, so check out Dannyâs demonstration in the video (trust me, it makes more sense when you see it in action!). Pro tip: keep your elbows tucked for smoother motion.
Headcover Aid - Place a flat headcover about a gripâs length in front of your teed-up ball to help you visualize hitting UP on the ball with your driver. Any flat object will do, but you likely have a headcover handy. Just avoid using your driverâs headcover - itâs too big, and trust me, youâll end up launching it halfway across the range (or so I heard from a friend).
By optimizing these minor adjustments, youâll feel - and hear - the difference in your swing. That satisfying whip noise as your driver cuts through the air? Thatâs your cue youâre on track for longer drives.
Bonus: Except for the headcover tip, all of these apply to your irons, too, so youâre set for more distance across your entire game. A grip trainer costs just $14.99 on Amazon, and once you grab one, your only swing thought should be âLet the hinges workâ for instant improvements.

Distracting Gasses
Itâs kind of evil and mean, but I feel like the dude deserved to be âdistractedâ and maybe, just maybe, should take a chill pill. đ¨đ¨đ¨đ¨
Deals for the Feels
The good deals are finally rolling in, just like I promised last week! đ
Callaway just slashed prices on their Paradym series. Drivers are now $399 (down from $599), and fairway woods are $249 (down from $349). These are just the tip of the iceberg, so nowâs the time to grab them!
A $419 Evnroll putter for just $299? If thatâs not a steal, I donât know what is. Get your hands on one. You wonât regret it.
Iâm a sucker for the sleek look of Mizuno Wedges, and now theyâre 33% off! Snag one for $99 instead of $159. Thatâs one hell of a deal.
Okay, it's not exactly a deal, but the new golden Scotty Cameron putter looks seriously cool. Worth a look if youâre into premium gear.

Thick Grips. Just Hype?
Thick grips are all the rage right now, but what do they actually do, and are they the answer to everyoneâs problems? Letâs see what Martin Borgmeier, reigning Long Drive Champion, has to say about it.
Video length: 10:42
TL;DW:
Straighten Club Face - For Martin, thicker grips helped him achieve a more consistent face closure, which keeps his shots straighter and more predictable.
Balance - Thicker grips can improve the balance of your clubs. Since theyâre heavier, they can help you feel more control if your clubs feel off-balance. You can even add weight to them for extra stability.
It All Depends - No magic fix works for everyone. Youâll need a grip fitting to see if thicker grips are right for you. But if youâre gripping the club too hard (guilty here!), thicker grips might be worth trying out. They can reduce tension and help you hold the club more naturally.
Iâm planning to experiment with different grips in the off-season. My ironsâ grips are pretty worn out after two seasons, so now seems like the perfect time to test something new. Might be a small change with a big impact.

Quiz answer
#1 Tiger Woods $2.66 billion
#2 Arnold Palmer â $1.76 billion
#3 Jack Nicklaus â $1.67 billion
WHAT?! Of course, that includes all of their off-course earnings like sponsorships, licensing fees (the Arnold Palmer drink), or countless courses built, but holy moly! I wasnât expecting to see Arnold & Jack up there, but they certainly deserve it.
Shoutout to the Perfect Putt newsletter for giving the idea for this weekâs trivia.
